The Watermelon Train event held on Saturday, July 19th was a great success, drawing families from near and far for a day full of summertime joy at Iron Horse Square!
With 349 train rides given throughout the day, the park was buzzing with excitement. Laughter filled the air as children enjoyed the fun and families cooled off with generous slices of ice-cold watermelon — the perfect treat on a warm July day.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Jody Holmes and the Methodist Men for sponsoring the Watermelon Festival Train, making this wonderful day possible. We also extend our gratitude to Brookshire’s and Walmart for providing the delicious watermelons and to Chevron for donating the ice that kept everything refreshingly cool.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible Iron Horse volunteers, who continue to make the mini train a beloved attraction in Mineola. Their time and passion are what keep this tradition on track — quite literally! If you would interested in volunteering please contact Doris Newman at mainstreet@mineola.com.
If you haven’t yet experienced the magic of the Watermelon Train, you’re missing out on one of Mineola’s most charming attractions. Mark your calendar and make plans to join us again on Saturday, August 2nd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Game Day Train for another fun-filled ride in our beautiful city.
We’ll see you at the tracks!
